Sample Shopping, attending trade shows, the internet, travelling all of these are great ways to find out what is happening in the fashion world and are detrimental to helping us create, design and build our seasonal collections.  We do have to ask ourselves a very important question, who are we designing and building these collections for?  We have to market our findings, creativity and trends to our customer.  Here are some ‘fashion personalities” that can help us make the right choices in material, function, size, trends, classic style and so many other details that go into our daily jobs.

1. “The Minimalist”: They have a uniform that is not classic in the conventional sense but it is totally classic to them.  They always buy the same designers, brands and shop in the same stores and look for similar looks, functions and style. They mix and match textures, shapes and mostly have a neutral colour palette.  Their goal: “Perfecting the algorithm without be too preditable”

2. “The Investor” : They keep an eagle eye on fashion shows as well as magazine pages and ads to anticipate what they will find and when it is best to get it.  They love quality.  Fabric and fit must be at a very high level to pass their test.  Most of their purchases would be considered safe but they will always add a brave trendy choice  or two to shake things up. Their goal: ” Create the look that mixes designer splurges with far less pricey finds”

3. “The Trend Spotter” : They are very adventurous.  They seek out stylish silhouettes or a new way to layer and instinctivly become this season’s fashion expert.  They shop fast fashion or do a dry run on an experimental look.  Clothing and accessories are a form of expression and they fearlessly combine pieces with abandon to keep it fresh.  Their goal: “Staying inspired by what’s new and what’s been rediscovered”
